One year ago today we discovered that we were having twins. Ryan held my hand as I laid there awaiting our first ultrasound. I vividly remember my labored breathing, completely overwhelmed with anticipation and fear. Having suffered a recent loss, all I wanted was to see the white flicker on the screen…the one that indicated a heart beat. My eye caught sight of it before our doctor could announce the news. Instant tears of joy clouded my view. She continued to scan, silently studying the screen. Finally, she said, “There is one heart beat...and there is the other.” I was so grateful to see a heart beat at all that the second one didn’t register for days…maybe even weeks! I am still wrapping my mind around it at times. We had no idea then how much those tiny little flickers meant to us…how they would grow into the two greatest loves we have known. We often wonder how it is possible to love so deeply, something so tiny, someone we have barely known. And the greater mystery is that we could love that way twice.
Yet we do. Our hearts are full.

As I reflect on this special anniversary a verse comes to mind.
Zechariah 9:9-12
Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope;
today I declare that I will restore to you double.
Someone whom I have never met was used mightily by God in our life & family. Her name is Jai and she is a friend of a friend. Last year she committed to pray over my journey toward motherhood. After we miscarried in August of 2006 she felt moved to pray this scripture over me.
**from Jai’s email to our friend Elle on 10/19/06 **
Zechariah 9:12 is so strong in my spirit regarding Andrea. Every thought of her, this scripture dances around!
**written by Jai on Halloween 2006**
The scripture God gave me regarding Andrea, Zec. 9:12..... God has revealed Himself! He has restored unto her DOUBLE!!! Andrea is expecting twins. God is Faithful! There is NO lack in Him! Praise the Lord. He is sovereign!...
Ryan and I were greatly rewarded & challenged by her devotion to pray. Even as she struggled in her own journey toward motherhood, she went to the Father on our behalf & rejoiced in His kindness toward us. Jai, whoever and wherever you are, you will always have a treasured place in our family.
